About the project

APX Civil was engaged to deliver civil works for a 17-lot residential subdivision in Tullimbar, NSW.

The project involved site establishment, survey set-out, environmental controls, demolition of existing pavement, service location, communications cable lowering, new power conduit works, earthworks, subgrade preparation, drainage, kerb construction, pavement works and asphalt surfacing.

Delivered through a staged construction process, the works required careful coordination between survey, underground services, earthworks, testing, pavement preparation and final road construction to support the development of the residential subdivision.

Site Establishment, Survey and Service Coordination

The project commenced with site establishment, environmental controls and survey set-out to prepare the subdivision for civil construction.

APX Civil installed sediment and inlet controls to manage runoff throughout the works and completed survey set-out to establish the construction levels, road alignment and service locations.

Existing services were located and coordinated prior to excavation, including works associated with the lowering of communications cables.

Demolition, Earthworks and Subgrade Preparation

Following establishment, APX Civil commenced demolition and earthworks across the subdivision road areas.

The works included removal of existing two coat seal pavement, topsoil stripping and excavation to reach the required subgrade levels. Once the road formation was prepared, the subgrade was proof rolled using a 12-tonne smooth drum roller with geotechnical inspection carried out to assess ground conditions.

Soft spots identified during the proof roll were removed and treated with suitable base material, geofabric and geogrid where required. The subgrade was then prepared for pavement construction, with water cart support used to condition the material to optimum moisture content before compaction testing.

Drainage, Pavement Preparation and Kerb Works

APX Civil completed drainage and pavement preparation works to support the long-term performance of the subdivision road network.

This included the installation of ag lines, importation and placement of 40mm sub-base material, trimming of pavement layers and compaction testing to confirm the works met the required standard before surfacing.

Kerb works were also completed across the subdivision, with set-out pinned by APX Civil’s in-house surveyor to maintain accuracy across the road alignment. Three kerb profiles were incorporated into the works, including kerb only, dish drain, and kerb and gutter sections.

Road Construction, Surfacing and Project Delivery

The final road construction works involved trimming, shaping and preparing the pavement surface ready for sealing and asphalt.

APX Civil used GPS and survey-controlled machinery, including a laser grader and Leica total station, to assist with accurate pavement preparation. Once the pavement was prepared and tested, the road surface was finished with prime, two coat seal and AC14 asphalt surfacing.

Through careful staging, survey control, geotechnical testing and coordination of services, drainage, kerb and pavement works, APX Civil delivered the subdivision road infrastructure required to support the new residential lots in Tullimbar.
